Holy Communion
The Eucharist is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life.’ The other sacraments, [and indeed all other aspects of the Church’s life], are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself’ - CCC 1324.
First Holy Communion is the sacrament in which a person, typically a child around the age of seven or eight, receives the Eucharist for the first time. The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the body and blood of Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. This sacrament is central to Catholic worship and signifies a deepening of the individual’s relationship with Christ and the Church community. Preparation for First Communion often includes catechesis (religious instruction) and participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The preparation for those in any of our Catholic Primary schools takes place in school; whereas the children who are not in a Catholic school do their preparation in the Parish. The main requirements for either option is regular attendance and active participation in the life of the Parish. Registration opens in November – December, and the catechetical preparation runs from January to Eastertide.
