Welcome Message from Fr Godlove

Dear Parishioners,

Peace be with you all.

I do not come to my parish but to our parish. I have been sent to serve the People of God in Ellesmere Port; and from the moment I was informed of this move, I have had you all present in my prayers and I plead with you to pray for me as I join and journey with you. To borrow and retouch the line from St Augustine, I say, “With you I am a Christian, and for you I am a priest.” We are followers of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and my wish for us all is that we be foremost a People of Prayer, Faith & Community.

i. People of Prayer by diligently setting aside time to spend with the Lord at Mass and Eucharistic Adoration where we adore Him truly present in the Blessed Sacrament; daily personal prayer, the Rosary and Marian devotions, as well as other personal devotions.

ii. People of Faith by growing in knowledge of God through reading the Scriptures, Catechesis and understanding the teachings of Christ as handed down in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Church’s Magisterium such that we know what we believe and why; and striving to have an active sacramental life.

iii. People of Community as a result of our prayer and faith which consequently leads us to “Go into the world and proclaim the Gospel” (Mk 16:15) by our words and actions to everyone in our lovely area of Ellesmere Port and beyond, through a joyful and concrete spreading of the love of God to all those we come across, especially the young, the elderly, the sick and the lonely.

To the young ones in the parish, do not be afraid to actively engage with your faith and be involved in the life of the parish as much as you can. To the elderly ones, your wisdom, experience and time are very much needed in our parish. To those in between, well, you are invaluable to the life of the parish too, so please do not stay on the sidelines. As we have been brought together by our common faith and love of God in the person of Jesus Christ, may we always turn to Him and have Him as our reference point, not seeking what pleases us, but what pleases God. May our parish be the ‘prayer heartbeat’ of Ellesmere Port, where we and others can find solace and comfort in the Lord Jesus now and always, such that we could make use of this Sunday’s Responsorial Psalm and declare wholeheartedly “O Lord, you have been our refuge from generation to generation.”
