Why We Started the Social & Events Committee
Our Social Events Committee began in September 2023 with our first event, a Quiz Night. Since then, we have taken on the organization of the Christmas Fair for both 2023 and 2024, receiving great feedback and seeing increasing success.
Our events have been family-focused, though we continue working on increasing family participation. The money raised has directly supported our parish, with £918 raised in 2023, more than doubling to £1,842 in 2024. A key highlight of 2024 was bringing the parish together for one of our most successful Christmas celebrations, as well as our TV and Film Night, which was so popular that we ran out of space in the church hall!
Beyond events, we are also working to improve the facilities in the parish centre. This effort has already begun with the installation of a projector and new stage lighting, with plans for a Wi-Fi installation in the near future.
Our mission remains to bring the parish closer together, and we are now expanding our activities, including organizing a Lent Walk. We are also looking to grow our membership and welcome anyone interested in helping us strengthen our parish community.

Event Highlights
Quiz Nights
The Social and Events Committee is pleased to report on another successful year of parish quiz nights, which continued to bring together parishioners and friends for evenings of enjoyment, fellowship and friendly competition. Throughout the year, a variety of quiz formats and activities were introduced, with some ideas proving especially popular while others provided useful experience for future events. These evenings created a welcoming atmosphere where people of all ages could gather socially and strengthen connections within the parish community.
From 2026, the quiz nights began working in partnership with the Justice and Peace Group in support of CAFOD and its charitable work around the world. This collaboration has helped combine community activities with fundraising and awareness for important causes. The Social and Events Committee would like to thank everyone who attended, contributed prizes, or helped organise the events during the year. We look forward to continuing to develop new ideas and building on the success of our parish quiz nights in the future.
Please keep an eye out for announcements about our next quiz night. We are always keen to hear fresh ideas for themes, rounds and activities, and we warmly encourage anyone interested to get involved. If you would like to share an idea or volunteer to be our next Quiz Master, please contact us at events@ourladystar.co.uk.
Wirral Walk 2026
The Social and Events Committee is pleased to report on this year’s Wirral Walk, which took place on Saturday 28th March 2026
Participants completed the 12-mile route along the Wirral Way from West Kirby to Hooton. We were fortunate to enjoy good weather throughout the day, which helped make the walk an enjoyable and uplifting experience for all involved. The event provided a valuable opportunity for parishioners to come together in a spirit of fellowship, sharing time, conversation and encouragement along the route.
We were delighted to be joined by Deacon Tony, who accompanied the group for much of the day, and by Fr Godlove, who took part in the first 5km alongside the Headteacher of St Saviour’s and Mollie the dog. The strong participation in the walk reflects the continued commitment of parishioners to supporting parish life and community activities.
We are pleased to report that a total of £883.42 was raised. These funds will contribute towards supporting the ongoing work of the parish and its activities. The Social and Events Committee would like to extend sincere thanks to all who took part, and to everyone who supported the event through donations. We look forward to organising future events and continuing to build on the success of this year’s walk.
